The Program Mission
The mission of the program is to increase the pool of available teachers from a broader, more diverse background, particularly among the lowest-performing elementary schools. The program is open to all students who are enrolled at Cheyney University, not just males. Due to the low number of males who choose teaching as a profession, especially African-American males, the program is critical for providing much-needed role models for young students. More![]() More than Just a Scholarship ProgramThe Call Me MISTER (Mentors Instructing Students Towards Effective Role-Modeling) program at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania is a part of a National Initiative that it is not only a scholarship program that makes the ability of receiving a college degree attainable for prospective male educators, but also an intense teaching preparation program that gives full financial, academic and social support so that each student can succeed.
